Dustin Wald, a Junior at Northwest Passage High School was honored today by the University of Minnesota College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences with the Norman Borlaug Science Achievement Award. The award is named after Dr. Norman Borlaug, a CFANS graduate and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on developing disease resistant wheat. He is credited with saving over a billion people from starvation and for providing a blueprint for countering today's resurgence in global hunger.
The purpose of the award is to recognize a young individual for his or her academic achievements in the area of science. Dustin created several projects throughout the school year including a Tesla Coil, a Ruben's Tube and his own computer. Dustin received a certificate of recognition, a copy of the book Our Daily Bread: The Essential Norman Borlaug, a University of Minnesota ball cap and a $500 scholarship upon successful enrollment in the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resources Sciences at the University of Minnesota.
Way to go Dustin!
